A little wet - Katie

09/08
I’m writing this at 7 am because as I woke to go for an early morning jog, the weather decided to attack. Even though it did seem a too little dark for 7 as I opened my shudders, I assumed it was a combination of my drowsiness and morning clouds. No. About three seconds after turning away from the window, in the amount of time it took for me to walk across my room, I begin to hear a loud thundering coming through the streets. This wasn’t like lightening and thunder thunder, no, it was like a train had suddenly emerged from the ocean and was making its way through the fragile town of Yoff. Immediately I went back to the window, but it was too late and my shudders begin to frantically bang back and forth. I heard pots and pans falling in the other rooms, market stalls being blown over on the next block, and actually felt like I was in the movie Hook and about to be abducted by pirates.

Well, actually I was a little frightened because I’m not sure just how strong cinderblock is against strong winds, and also wasn’t sure what I should expect next after a blast of wind like that. I was thinking perhaps a tsunami or maybe or tornado, but instead it started to rain. And rain and rain and rain. It is still raining actually, and the “thunder” that I hear is in fact wind barreling through the tight corridors of Yoff, and this may perhaps be the last blog I write if the ground gets too wet (being our foundation and all) and we all slip into the ocean.
It’s okay though. I can take this as a sign from god that I am indeed crazy for trying to go running in the blistering morning heat, and also amuse myself by chasing around Mister Cockroach (the roommate I didn’t know until recently that I had) with my 100% DEET spray. Nope, can’t do that anymore because the power just went out and in reality I’m a little scarred that the cockroach is going to attack me now too. I think I’m going to go crawl into my mosquito net and pray that this building doesn’t collapse.
