Patience --- sweet patience
I am finally at the internet cafe with resources that i've been waiting for not so patiently -- and i'm at a loss for words. what do our friends and families want to hear from us? well, to begin, Verite is the name of the community in Auroville where we reside. in short, it is our home for the next few months. the community is 100% solar power with no refrigeration and our water is pumped via the windmill. our rooms are luxuriously comfortable with fans, (except Liz, Katie, and Kristen who are still waiting for their fan), cotton sheets, screened windows, and the occasional infestation of ants. I think Amy is a pro at ridding her room of ants.
Poor Brendon awoke from a nap covered in ants, but we learned it's a great excuse for being late to a meeting. (grin). Andy and Zeno's room is, so far, ant free the last i heard. The heat is hot, and the humidity is 100%, but it is all bearable. The outdoor showers with only cold water as an option are refreshing as all get out! Aaron serinades us with his beautiful guitar playing and Kyle's unmistakable Cape Cod accent is a reminder of "home" for many. We are all doing well. experiencing a variety of emotions as we begin to aclimate to this foreign place. We are deepening as a group and enjoying the food, no doubt! today in our free morning, we all ventured out on our 50's - style cycles on roads with only one rule -- drive on the left. "Use your bells and hold your ground", was great advice as we share these narrow red clay mud roads with motors (motorcyles and scooters), cars, buses, trucks and occasionally cows and dogs. We pedal along with sun-kissed grins and sweaty crotches as we explore and learn our way in a Auroville. few signs and a mediocre (sp?) map help... but more helpful are the friendly villagers and aurovillians who point and shake their head side to side meaning yes.
more pictures and blogs will be posted soon as we get internet access in Verite. we send all of our love along to our friends and families. we would love to hear from all of you too. keep the emails coming and snail mail is fun too!!!
ciao, Jules
